I don’t understand this field and how to use it.
I’d like to possibly use it to embed my SVG logo, is that what it’s used for?

You can ignore that, it will be removed 
That property is used to prevent unlimited recursive same component, because nesting components is possible and if you nest same component in the same component, it can break the website, so using Symbols variable it stores all components and prevents that.
