PDF links and better file management

Hello!

Seriously, we need the capacity to upload PDF document to divhunt and link them for download… Or any other sort of file…

And an assets manager, PLEASE! come on, we need a better way to handle and organise files and Images in Divhunt.

More than a Wishlist, this is kind of foundational really…

Thanks!
Juan.-

There is already a assets manager, but it’s hidden in a place where it’s difficult to find. You can find it when you click on the replace file button after selecting an image. It would be great if Divhunt can make a page link for these assets inside a separate tab or inside a different tab. I also like the idea of a download button next to the trash button.

Thank you Daphne, but I was already familiar with your suggestion. And is not solving my problem.

I keep upload ing a PDF and there is no way I can find it. As well there is no real capacity to manage nor organise files the “Assets” popup.

I agree the asset management could be better, but once you upload an image or file you can find it within the asset manager with the search button at the top. If you need to find the direct link to that asset, there is a link button (looks like a chain) that will copy the asset’s direct link to your clipboard.

Thank you Mark, not sure if had a chance to look at the video I shared on my post posted. And I do apologise if is not clear enough on that screen capture, that no matter how many time I upload the PDF file, any chain links I click, there is no file.

And there is nowhere I can see where the files are stored, and check if the file has been uploaded. Of course that most obvious answer is, well, the file is not uploaded. So then, is the issue the file it self (unlikely since I tried other files with the same outcome) – or the so called “assets manager”

Apologies, Juam!

For some reason, I didn’t see that the first time I looked at it! The only thing I can think of right now, short of logging out and in etc. Is that that the file might be a little large. I’m not sure, but I believe the video limit is 20 MB and the image limit is 2 MB, so if it’s larger than 2 and Divhunt is treating a PDF with the image limits then that could be your issue. Try it with a PDF less than 2 to see if you can get it to upload.

It will say uploaded, but not actually be available.

On a side note, you will often get a much quicker response in the Discord, if you’re not there already. I also believe that they are doing a large update soon, so hopefully this was on the road map as this isn’t the first time I’ve seen the asset manager brought up. I’ve made a drag and drop request myself!

No need to apologise Marc

OK, the size limit might make sense, and simple “file exceeds limits” prompt would be rather useful. I’ll test smaller files see if they show up and report back.

BUT, the case remains, that we DO need a better assets manager. Search is useful, but folders are necessary. And totally with you on the drag and drop.

Thank you for the Discord shoutout I’ll check that out now.

Cheers!

In my opinion, the best way to handle PDFs is to keep them in Canva and simply insert a link to the Canva file on your website. This way, you can edit and update them directly in Canva at any time without making any changes or re-uploading anything to the site.

Thanks WojciechK! I don’t use Canva, but similar to your suggestion, what your example would be using is Google Drive or Dropbox.

But alas, these are just ways to work around it, not solutions. In my opinion, even though we can manage in other ways, it would be much better to have it integrated.

I still think that we need a better file management system. PDFs or any other file. I might be alone on this, yet I can see many will still benefit if and when it happens.

I totally get your point — having a native file management system would definitely make things easier. For me though, the Canva embed turned out to be more than just a workaround. It actually gives me full control over the content forever — I can update or edit the e-book anytime, and the changes show up on the site instantly without me ever needing to re-upload or send a new PDF.

So while I also hope Divhunt will offer a built-in solution one day, this approach works surprisingly well in the meantime. :rocket:
